American Indian Hall
A true collaborative effort, American Indian Hall brings all Montana native tribes together, creating a home for American Indian and Native Alaskan students at Montana State University. ThinkOne worked with numerous specialists, including Dennis Sun Rhodes, a native architect, Major Robinson, a cultural consultant, and a number of botanist specialists, to create a cohesive, culturally significant facility for Montana State. As a team, we gathered information from Montana tribes as well as MSU students, Native American Studies faculty, and MSU leadership to inform every design decision from the building form to the selection of native, medicinal and edible plants surrounding the facility.
Sustainability is at the core of native culture; as such, it is an integral component to American Indian Hall’s design. For example, all trees removed from the site were repurposed and utilized for decorative furniture within the facility.
Additionally, active sustainable strategies including geothermal wells, photovoltaic panels and a solar wall pre-heat system attribute to the building’s efficiency. American Indian Hall was the first LEED Version 4.0 Platinum building in the State of Montana.

Bozeman Public Safety Center
Balance was key to the success of the Bozeman Public Safety Center. Balance of secure yet transparent, formal yet welcoming, connection to the outdoors yet highly efficient. Additionally, the facility needed to balance multiple user needs, including shared amenities between departments. Ultimately, the facility perfectly balances each department’s functional and security needs while maintaining a welcoming public presence.
With sustainability practices in mind, the project re-purposed an existing brownfield site. Additionally, photovoltaics are incorporated into the architecture with photovoltaic canopies for secure police parking as well as utilizing most of the available roof. Being an Emergency Operations facility, energy efficiency was critical to all design decisions.
Designed in association with Anderson Mason Dale Architects (Denver, CO) and TCA (Seattle, WA), the Bozeman Public Safety Center is a multi-faceted facility combining Bozeman's Fire Station #1, Bozeman Police Headquarters, Municipal Courts, City of Bozeman Attorney Offices and Victim Services.

Central Valley Fire District – Station #1
Central Valley Fire District – Station #1 is revolutionary in its approach to isolating environmental contaminants. By creating a stand-alone decontamination building for vehicle and firefighter decontamination, the design isolates cancer causing pollutants from entering the main station.
Our shared goal, along with Central Valley Fire District, was to maintain a clean living and working environment for their team. Central Valley is the first of its kind in the United States and has set precedent for future stations around the nation.
Central Valley was awarded Firehouse Magazine’s Station Design Awards as well as a F.I.E.R.O award.

Bozeman Fire Station #3 + Gallatin County 911 Center
Designed in association with TCA out of Seattle, Washington, this modern facility provides critical service operations space for Bozeman’s new Fire Station No. 3 and Gallatin County’s 911 Dispatch Center. This cooperative effort capitalizes on shared technology and emergency systems to make both operations more efficient and cost effective.
With Bozeman’s long-term sustainability goals in-mind, this facility is heated/cooled with geothermal wells; an efficient strategy for an emergency operations facility in operation 24/7.
Adjacent to Gallatin County’s 100 Acre Regional Park and residential neighborhoods, this facility provides a Civic anchor to Bozeman’s west-side.
Bozeman Fire Station #3/Gallatin County 911 Dispatch Center was awarded Fire Chief Magazine’s Silver Award for “Shared Use Facilities”.

Bozeman Fire Station #2
As Bozeman continues to grow, so does the need for increased public safety. In an effort to reduce call times to Bozeman’s south-side, the City of Bozeman extensively researched the optimal location for Fire Station #2. The prime location was identified across from Museum of the Rockies on Montana State University’s campus. In collaboration with Montana State University, the City of Bozeman established a long-term lease at the exact location identified as the optimum location for Bozeman’s continued growth.
Fire Station #2 is a 3-bay facility with living quarters, fire-fighter training area as well as offices. Decontamination efforts are thoughtfully considered during design to aid in fire fighter health and safety. Additionally, sustainability integration is critical to meet the City of Bozeman’s long-term sustainability goals. The facility includes a solar wall and a photovoltaic array to help offset the energy needs of the station. Thinking about the long-term sustainability, provisions are included for charging future electric fire trucks.
Currently under construction, Fire Station #2 is expected to be complete in 2024.

Yellowstone Club Public Safety Building
The Yellowstone Club’s new Public Safety Building provides critical emergency services for Yellowstone Club members and guests. Due to its unique location and steep site, the building is nestled into the hillside, with program elements approached from the upper and lower levels. The apparatus bay is located on the ground level while the living quarters and offices are accessed from the third level.
One unique element of this station is the four-story training tower. Designed to emulate various conditions firefighters face, this training tower provides life-like conditions allowing firefighters to hone their skills. Smoke, water, heights, stairs, balcony conditions, fire sprinkler lines and heads, etc. all aid in creating life-like training scenarios.
